Attendance Support & Intervention

Partnering Early for Student Success

Early intervention and cooperation between the school and family is the most effective way to support student success.

If a student begins to miss school regularly, the school will reach out to work with the family to identify the cause and develop a plan for improvement. Our goal is always to address concerns early — before a student falls significantly behind or becomes disengaged from school.

Levels of Support

When attendance concerns continue despite school outreach, additional steps may be required under California law.

A student may be referred to:

  • A Student Attendance Review Board (SARB)
  • Community service programs
  • The County Probation Department
  • The District Attorney’s Office

These programs are designed to provide guidance and support to improve attendance and remove barriers to school participation.

What is SARB?

The Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) is a collaborative panel that works with families to:

  • Identify challenges affecting attendance
  • Connect families with community resources
  • Develop an attendance improvement plan
  • Monitor progress and provide accountability

The goal of SARB is prevention and intervention — not punishment.

Parent/Guardian Legal Responsibility

Under California law, students and parents/guardians are responsible for regular school attendance. Continued unexcused absences may result in legal consequences as defined in:

  • Education Code
  • Welfare and Institutions Code
  • Penal Code

We strongly encourage families to take advantage of the support and resources offered by the school and community partners before concerns escalate.

We Are Here to Help

If your family is experiencing challenges that impact attendance, please contact the school office or principal as soon as possible. Working together early makes the greatest difference.
